What will be covered during this webinar?

On July 30, 2018, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) new rule requiring all Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) to adopt a smoke-free policy will take effect.  PHAs and many state and local health agencies have already begun promoting a variety of cessation services available to PHA residents, including state quitlines. However, data from NAQC’s FY2017 Annual Survey indicates only two state quitlines currently gather data on calls to the quitline from PHA residents. To advance our understanding of whether HUD’s smoke-free rule is increasing utilization of state quitlines, NAQC is developing a standardized approach for identifying PHA residents who call state quitlines.

This foundation-setting activity will enable states to assess the number of PHA residents who reach out to state quitlines for cessation services, as well as position states and the quitline community to set goals to improve service delivery to PHA residents, and to measure progress.

During this webinar NAQC will present:

  • New information from the FY2017 Annual Survey on states that are promoting HUD’s new smoke-free rule for public housing and collecting information on utilization of the quitline from residents of public housing
  • Workgroup recommendations on ways state quitlines can monitor calls from residents of public housing and a request for feedback from NAQC members.
