April Webinar - A Special Webinar Focused on the Future of Quitlines

Dear Colleagues,

Please join NAQC in celebrating its 10 years of work to increase the access, use and effectiveness of quitline services across diverse communities in North America during a special webinar focused on the Future of Quitlines. The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, from 11 – 12:30 Eastern Time. Please mark this on your calendar!

During the past two years, NAQC has engaged its Board of Directors, Advisory Council, members, staff and partners in a multi-pronged, multi-year approach to defining the future vision of quitlines and most importantly, identifying the role NAQC may play in making that vision a reality. Tobacco Cessation Quitlines in the U.S. - An Exploration of the Past and Considerations for the Future, a NAQC issue paper authored by Dr. David Tinkelman, serves to outline the current status of publicly-funded statewide quitlines and describe how they are responding operationally to improve efficiency and serve as leverage points for broader cessation initiatives with new and existing partners. The issue paper also highlights best and promising practices for integrating quitlines into the broader healthcare landscape and serves to inform decision-making on strategic planning, determining specific goals and objectives of a statewide quitline and sustainability planning for the future. Please note that the paper along with the executive summary, which presents recommendations for the quitline community, will be presented during the April 30th webinar. The issue paper and executive summary will be distributed mid-April. We look forward to discussing the findings and recommendations with you and hearing your comments on the types of NAQC programs and activities that would best address your needs.

A lot has changed since the origination of the Consortium -- the dynamic tobacco cessation landscape now includes focus areas that were not on our radar a decade ago, a new demographic of tobacco users, innovations in tobacco products (vapor/e-cigarettes), healthcare reform and Affordable Care Act implementation, technological advances in tobacco cessation (electronic medical records, online and text interventions), cost-sharing and sustainability strategies, etc. In the coming years, we will focus on these and many other topics to meet the needs of our members, to expand the availability and reach of quality quitline services and to further define and shape the future vision of the quitline community.

Once again we thank you for your continued commitment throughout the years and look forward to moving the practice forward!
