Innovative Strategies to Increase the Reach and Utilization of Quitlines Among Priority Populations

Wednesday, August 19, 2015
Posted by: Natalia Gromov

Please note that this next webinar is taking place on Wednesday, September 2 from 12:30-2:00 pm EST.

Quitlines are well positioned to serve almost the entire population of tobacco users, however, their reach to date is limited. One potential benefit of quitlines is their ability to reach populations who would not otherwise seek tobacco cessation treatment services. During this webinar, two researchers will report on innovative strategies to increase quitline reach and effectiveness with low-income smokers. Jim Pavlik will report on the evaluation of current quitline services for low-income smokers to identify both primary barriers to Colorado QuitLine use and recommended tactics that may assist in overcoming identified barriers. Bruce Christiansen will report on the results of providing a brief motivational intervention to smokers who were not motivated to quit, recruited from five Wisconsin Salvation Army sites. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences on this topic and discuss implications for future practice.
After participating in this webinar attendees will be able to:

  • Describe tobacco use in health priority populations including prevalence and risk factors;
  • Identify innovative strategies for increasing reach and utilization of quitlines with priority populations and critical steps in the development process;
  • Describe important findings and conclusions from recent evaluations of strategies to increase quitline use among low-income smokers.
