Dear Colleagues,

You are invited to attend the upcoming meeting of the Interagency Committee on Smoking and Health (ICSH). The meeting will take place on July 28, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Federal A&B Rooms at the Capital Hilton, 1001 16th Street NW, Washington DC, 20036.

ICSH is a congressionally-mandated federal advisory committee that is charged with helping to coordinate the federal efforts related to smoking and health and to serve as a liaison with appropriate private organizations as well as state and local public health agencies regarding smoking and health. ICSH reports to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). It is chaired by the U.S. Surgeon General and is staffed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention?s Office on Smoking and Health.

The topic of the meeting will be "Tobacco-Use Cessation: Emerging Interventions and Innovations.” The meeting will focus on emerging and innovative practices to expand access to and improve the effectiveness of tobacco-use cessation interventions in areas such as low-income smokers and smokers suffering from mental disease. The meeting will highlight federal, state, and local efforts to address these disparities. There will also be time for input and discussion from the Committee.

If you are interested in attending this meeting, please contact Monica Swann at (770) 488-5278 or via e-mailmswann@cdc.gov.
