2015 Survey

Since 2004, NAQC has conducted a survey of quitlines in North America. The information collected in the survey advances our understanding of quitline operations and services. By sharing information about quitline financing, counseling interventions, medication provision, utilization, staffing and evaluation, quitlines contribute greatly to the field. Aggregate results are shared with the quitline community and partners and help achieve NAQC's mission of monitoring overall progress of quitlines and promoting evidence based quitline services across diverse communities in North America.

Historically, NAQC has conducted an annual survey of quitlines to gather data on quitline services, budget and funding sources, cost sharing activities, utilization, demographics and evaluation. Beginning in 2015 NAQC will streamline the data collection process, gathering high quality data on emerging and innovative practices (i.e., Medicaid and cost sharing activities), while reducing the burden on quitlines. The 2015 Annual Survey will be a smaller and more focused survey of quitlines that asks core questions to help monitor quitline services, funding, reach and quit rates. NAQC staff will conduct small key informant interviews with select quitline funders and service providers to gather information on emerging and innovative practices, as needed.

Although we had hoped to conduct the Annual Survey in Canada as well as the U.S. this year, Canadian funding has not come through for the survey. NAQC and Health Canada continue to discuss ways to monitor quitline progress in Canada.


During this 60-minute training webinar, that took place on August 31, 2015, participants:

  • Understood the major topics covered by the 2015 NAQC annual survey;
  • Understood the major changes from the 2013 survey;
  • Accessed the web data collection system and entered data;
  • Found out where to get help if they have questions or concerns about the survey, or have technical difficulties with the web data collection system; and,
  • Reviewed how survey data will be used by NAQC and made available to the larger quitline community.
