Call for nominations for two new awards designed to honor outstanding contributions to the treatment of tobacco use and dependence in the United States. The awards are named to recognize the service of Dr. Benjamin K. Chu as Legacy board chairman and board member. Legacy is the national nonprofit public health charity with a history of producing game-changing initiatives that have been proven to reduce tobacco use among young people and adults.

Nominations for each award will be accepted online at through Friday, Feb. 7, 2014.

Benjamin K. Chu Tobacco Use and Dependence Breakthrough Award

The purpose of the Breakthrough award is to recognize an individual or team of individuals who were most responsible for a significant or sudden advance in tobacco use and dependence based on a development or achievement in research, policy or systems that resulted in dramatic progress over the status quo. The winning entry will document the effect of the breakthrough and its link to reducing smokers’ addiction to tobacco products in the United States.

Benjamin K. Chu Tobacco Use and Dependence Integration Award

The purpose of the Integration award is to recognize a health care delivery system for its outstanding accomplishments in addressing tobacco use and dependence in its practice as evidenced by positive outcomes. The winning entry will serve as a leading-edge model of systems integration. The award is limited to work conducted in the United States.

Please consider nominating deserving leaders who have made outstanding contributions to further tobacco use and dependence treatment either as a catalyst for a breakthrough in the field or for commitment to integrating the practice of addressing tobacco in a health care delivery system.
