Just Released! QuickStats MMWR on e-Cigarette Use Among US Adults

Thursday, August 24, 2017
Posted by: Natalia Gromov
Dear Colleagues,

Today, CDC released an updated Quickstats MMWR report highlighting data from the 2016 National Health Interview Survey (NIHS) on use of e-cigarettes among US adults.
This report found, overall 15.4% of US adults have ever used e-cigarettes, while 3.2% are current users. The highest use, ever or current, of e-cigarettes is among adults aged 18-24; as age increases, use declines for both ever and current use.
While this Quickstats report does not compare the 2016 data to previous data on use of e-cigarettes, it should be noted the 2014 NIHS found e-cigarette use among US adults was 12.6% for ever use, and 3.2% for current use. We have included a copy of the National Center for Health Statistics data brief, published in October 2015, to allow you to compare data from the 2014 and 2016 NHIS on use of e-cigarettes among US adults.
NAQC continues to monitor national data and information on use of e-cigarettes to help the quitline community stay up-to-date, foster conversations about implications for quitlines, and develop best practices for cessation services.
