Updated Smoking Prevalence and Initiation Data from CTFK!

1.     2016 BRFSS Adult Smoking Prevalence. Released by CDC, the BRFSS provides state-specific adult smoking prevalence data.

2.     2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Released by SAMHSA, NSDUH includes estimates of the number of youth who try cigarettes for the first time each year and who become new regular, daily smokers. The 2016 NSDUH data indicate that each day, 2,300 kids in the United States try their first cigarette and another 350 kids under 18 years of age become new regular, daily smokers. That’s more than 135,000 new underage daily smokers in this country each year. As a result of this new data release, the state estimates for the number of kids who become new regular, daily smokers each year and the number of kids who try cigarettes for the first time each year on our website and in our detailed state toll sheets have been updated.
