Candidates and how to Vote for NAQC Board of Directors On June 1, NAQC will launch its 2022 election of the Board of Directors by the membership. The election is held online from June 1 to June 17. This email contains information on the election process and the nominees standing for election. When and how will the election take place? The election will take place from June 1 to June 17, using an online voting tool. Each organization has one vote which is cast by the “organizational representative”. The representative will receive an email with a link to the EBallot portal, a username and a password. All votes must be cast by June 17 at 5 p.m. PT.
Who are the nominees? NAQC is honored to have three exceptional nominees for this year’s election. Detailed information on each candidate’s experience, relationship to NAQC and vision for NAQC can be viewed by clicking on her/his name:
Alex Hurst, MHA, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Tiffany Jeanminette Netters, MPA, PMP, Louisiana Public Health Institute Thomas Ylioja, PhD, MSW, National Jewish Health
Who is eligible to vote? All organizational members of NAQC are eligible to vote in board elections. A single designated representative for each organization will cast a vote on behalf of her/his organization. To see the list, please click here.
Note: If you are the designee and prefer to have another person serve in this capacity, please contact NAQC(NAQC@naquitline.org) to make the change. Also, if you have an individual membership and would like to upgrade to an organizational membership prior to the election, please contact NAQC at NAQC@naquitline.org.
How many positions are open on the Board? Currently, NAQC has one position open on the Board of Directors. Who currently serves on the NAQC Board? For a list of members, click here. What qualifications does NAQC seek in new Board members? Quitlines are experiencing many changes, reflected in the emergence of new technologies, service models, approaches to sustainability, and populations served. NAQC seeks candidates for the Board who are innovative “difference makers” and who can help guide us through these changes. NAQC follows a policy governance model developed by John Carver that focuses on business issues and strategic leadership, rather than program development.
Candidates for the board should:- Have senior level corporate experience
- Possess leadership skills
- Be strategic thinkers
- Display professional and collegial demeanor
Board members do not represent their employer or any specific constituency, but instead work together to create a global vision for NAQC. We strive to have a Board that is diverse in terms of geography, race, ethnicity, gender, and perspective. The Board seeks members who are committed to NAQC’s mission and values, contribute diverse viewpoints and cultural experiences, and/or can fulfill fiduciary responsibilities. Board members may have expertise in areas such as: financial/fiduciary responsibility; sustainability of quitlines and of NAQC; addressing disparities in health; interests of NAQC membership; and relationships with health plans and employers.
Does the Board have terms and term limits? Board members are elected for a term of three-years and can be re-elected once. Directors may not serve for more than two consecutive terms. Partial terms of more than one year count as a full term. What is the time commitment? Do Board members receive payment? The annual time commitment for board members includes four meetings (usually 2 in-person meetings and 2 virtual meetings but now all 4 meetings are being held virtually) plus meeting preparation time, travel time and 2-10 hours of committee work. We ask directors to support the cost of their travel to Board meetings, if this is an expense their employer will allow. How will NAQC notify the membership of election results? The Chair of NAQC’s Board of Directors will announce the election results in late summer via a NAQC communication.
