Quitlines are science-based services that help people who use any form of tobacco quit and are available in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, each U.S. territory, and all ten Canadian provinces. Quitlines:
- Are FREE and confidential.
- Can be easily accessed by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW (U.S.) and 1-866-366-3667 (CANADA) or going online to your local quitline website. Services are also available in other languages.
- Overcome common challenges to seeking tobacco treatment, such as transportation, child care, financial or geographical barriers.
- Are staffed by highly trained quit coaches and provide tailored help to meet the needs of individuals.
- Increase a person's chances of quitting and staying quit; combining counseling and quit-smoking medications, such as patches, can double or triple the chances of success.
- Commonly offer a variety of other services, such as web-based tobacco interventions and text messaging
- Can provide support for family, friends, and healthcare professionals who want to help people access treatment for tobacco use.
- May offer free medications, like nicotine patches and gum, or provide tobacco vouchers or medication discounts.
