FDA Extends Deadline to Comment on Menthol
Thursday, September 19, 2013
Posted by: Natalia Gromov
As many of you know, on
July 23, 2013, the FDA issued an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM)
seeking additional information on menthol in cigarettes. The notice included a
list of questions - not limited to cigarettes -related to potential regulatory
options for menthol. The deadline for public comments has been extended
to November
22, 2013.
To date, 107,071 comments
have already been submitted, due in part to tobacco industry efforts to
mobilize opposition to any meaningful regulation of menthol in cigarettes. The public health community
cannot afford to sit on the sidelines while industry advocates flood the docket
with misinformation. Submit your comment today!
- View the ANPRM Notice.
- Read the FDA's
Preliminary Scientific Evaluation.
- Submit your own
comment.

If you have already
submitted comments on the Menthol Citizen Petition docket, we are working to
ensure that they are incorporated in the new menthol docket. We hope you will
also submit a comment on this docket, responding to the FDA's questions on
broader issues than were addressed in the Citizen Petition.
