NCI Research to Reality Webinar

October 15, 2013, 2-3 pm EDT - Reaching Smokers in the Age of Mobile Technology: Resources, Networks, and Messaging

As of 2013, every US state and Canadian province has a toll free tobacco quitline as a resource to treat tobacco dependence. The October National Cancer Institute (NCI) Research to Reality cyber seminar will examine how networks of quitlines interact and share innovations in quitline practices. We will also explore how text messaging as a smoking cessation resource platform may be a better suited method for reaching a new generation of smokers.

Dr. Jessie Saul, author of Mapping Tobacco Quitlines in North America: Signaling Pathways to Improve Treatment will join us to share a snapshot of the findings of the network practices and interconnectivity of the North American Quitline Consortium (NAQC).

Anathalie Jean-Charles from the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS, Quebec Division) will then share the results of a text message based smoking cessation pilot launched to target young adult smokers.

Jessie Saul, and Anathalie Jean-Charles will share their perspectives on the adoption and implementation practices of telecommunication platforms and networks.

The final part of the webinar will be dedicated to Q&A and discussion and will offer an opportunity to engage with the presenters, and also to share your own experiences and thoughts.
