Together with other
national tobacco control organizations, NAQC has recently signed-on to a number
of letters encouraging actions by the federal government and the private sector
that will advance tobacco cessation.
Defining
a comprehensive tobacco cessation benefit under the Affordable Care Act (ACA):
As we have all learned, the lack of a defined tobacco cessation benefit under
ACA is hindering the efforts of states and national organizations to gain
comprehensive cessation coverage under the new law. In this letter to Secretary
Sebelius, NAQC and other organizations encouraged HHS to clearly define a
comprehensive tobacco cessation benefit in the ACA regulation.
Encouraging
retailers to follow the lead of CVS in ending their sales of tobacco:
In an open letter to retailers (especially those with pharmacies), national
partners, including NAQC, encouraged retailers to end tobacco sales in their
stores.
Prohibiting
menthol flavoring in cigarettes: In late 2013, NAQC and its
partners submitted comments urging FDA to commence rulemaking that will
prohibit menthol as a flavor in cigarettes.
