Tobacco Product Use Among Adults – United States 2015.

Analysis of the adult tobacco core data from the 2015 National Health Interview (NHIS) reveals current tobacco use among adults in the United States is at 20.1%, with 17.6% using combustible tobacco products. Tobacco use rates are higher among certain populations, including:

·         47.2% of adults with psychological distress use tobacco products, compared to 19.2% of adults without serious psychological distress.

·         32.3% of uninsured adults and 31.7% of adult Medicaid enrollees use tobacco, compared to 16.6% of adults with private insurance.

·         27.8% of adults earning <$35,000 per year use tobacco.

·         27.4% of LGB adults report using tobacco products, compared to 20.1% of heterosexual adults.

·         26.65 of non-Hispanic AI/AN adults use tobacco.

·         25.4% of non-Hispanic multiracial adults use tobacco.
