The U.S. Food and Drug Administration plans to move on several fronts related to tobacco regulation this year. Back in July 2017, the FDA announced a new plan that places nicotine, and the issue of addiction, at the center of the agency’s tobacco regulation efforts. As it begins to develop a process for evaluating nicotine replacement therapy products, the FDA is seeking information and comments from the public health community, researchers, health care professionals, interested members of industry and others. The FDA will accept electronic or written comments both on its approach to evaluating the safety and effectiveness of NRT products, and on how these products should be used and labeled.
