Open Access Issue Released: Tobacco Exposure During Pregnancy

Wednesday, May 5, 2010
Dear SRNT Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the April 2010 open access issue of Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica is a thematic issue on tobacco exposure during pregnancy, with an emphasis on research priorities and challenges faced by low- and middle-income countries.

The special issue resulted from an international call for articles last year, following a 2008 expert meeting organized by the Global Network for Perinatal and Reproductive Health, the U.S. Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, and the U.S. National Cancer Institute. The issue includes more than 20 scientific contributions, as well as a guest editorial from the new head of WHO in Europe, Dr. Zsuzsanna Jakab.

The overarching message of the special issue is that increasing tobacco use among women in low- and middle-income countries threatens to undermine hard-won improvements in maternal and child health, and progress towards the Millennium Development Goals.

The journal is kindly providing free access to the special issue’s contents for 6 months:

NCI has a limited number of paper copies of the journal availalbe– if you would like a copy, please e-mail me individually and provide a mailing address.

We specially thank the SRNT members who attended the 2008 expert meeting, and contributed to this special issue.

Michele Bloch
On behalf of colleagues at the CDC’s Division of Reproductive Health and the Global Network for Perinatal and Reproductive Health.
