SmokeFree Public Housing: Helping Smokers Quit - Project Resources

Dear NAQC Members,

In March 2018, the North American Quitline Consortium (NAQC) embarked on an exciting, two-year project title “Smoke
Free Public Housing: Helping Smokers Quit”. The project’s overarching goal was to increase the demand for cessation services among Public Housing Authority (PHA) residents to reduce tobacco use and improve the overall health, wellbeing and equity of PHA communities. The project was a partnership between three national organizations – American Cancer Society (ACS), Smoking Cessation Leadership Center (SCLC) and NAQC. Quitlines from five states participated in the project: California, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.

Throughout the 2-year effort, NAQC collaborated with the participating quitlines to develop resources that can be used by other state quitlines seeking to forge relationships with CHCs and PHAs in their state and lessons learned and factors that facilitated the project. These products are:

  • Tobacco Cessation Resource Directory (One for each participating state and a template that can be tailored for any state)
  • Case Study: Establishing Referral Programs between Quitlines and Community Health Centers
  • Two project related webinars

Click here to visit the project page on NAQC’s website for more information and resources. We hope that these resources will be useful to quitlines’ efforts to increase cross-sector collaborations with PHAs and CHCs in their state. Please contact naqc@naquitline.org with any questions.
