This year marks the 10th year since CDC launched Tips, the first-ever federally funded national tobacco education campaign. The Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) created Tips to combat the epidemic of tobacco use in the United States. Cigarette smoking alone kills more than 480,000 Americans each year. For every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness or disability. The Tips campaign features real people, sharing the impact that smoking has had on their life - and the lives of their families - through hard-hitting visuals. These brave individuals help us put a face on the overwhelming statistics of tobacco death and disability. The Tips campaign is making an impact. Research shows that during 2012–2018: - An estimated one million people successfully quit smoking and more than 16 million people attempted to quit smoking because of the Tips campaign.
- The Tips campaign helped prevent an estimated 129,000 early deaths and helped save an estimated $7.3 billion in smoking-related healthcare costs.
By promoting Tips through social media posts, emails to listservs, information posted to websites, and stories featured in local media, you have helped make the campaign a success. And, most importantly, you have helped people quit smoking. » learn more
