Dear NAQC Community,
Monday, we celebrate Juneteenth — the day the enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they had been freed and took their first steps toward equality. Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom that touches us all. It's a day to celebrate the Black community's resilience and triumph and reflect on the significant work to be done.
Recent NAQC data show that the percentage of Black adults quitlines serve is increasing, from 14.7% of participants in FY20 to 16.5% in FY22. Quitlines are also working to improve culturally responsive promotion and services; seventeen states report conducting tailored outreach to the Black community, and over a third of state quitlines have adopted protocols to help people who use menthol products. Despite this progress, we must recommit to act and amplify efforts and resources to improve equitable quitline practice and accelerate declines in tobacco harm.
