NAQC’s new project, supported by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, will generate defensible funding recommendations to increase U.S. state and territorial quitline capacity across four core areas: services and NRT, promotion and reach, health systems change for referrals, and comprehensive staffing. The analysis uses data from the FY24 NAQC Annual Survey of Quitlines and national health datasets to estimate the resources needed for each state to implement all six priority best practices and exceed median quitline reach.

Project fact sheets will be released in early January 2026, timed to support most state legislative sessions, and will show how each jurisdiction compares to national median service benchmarks along with recommended funding levels to close service gaps. These fact sheets are intended to help strengthen national cessation system capacity for immediate impact and longer-term sustainability, and NAQC will share additional details and progress updates soon.
