Build the skills and confidence to talk with patients, clients, and community members about tobacco through these upcoming tobacco treatment training opportunities. Registration is now open for 2026 events. Choose between two formats for completing the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Pathway: Complete the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Pathway through one comprehensive program featuring four live virtual training days (via Zoom) and required self-paced pre-work. - Three Step Pathway: Complete the Essential Skills and Intensive Skills Training along with a Treatment-Focused Workshop to fulfill the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Pathway requirements.
Foundational training covering nicotine addiction and practical, evidence-based treatment strategies; take as a pathway step or a standalone introduction to tobacco treatment. Participants will build on common counseling skills used in intensive tobacco treatment such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy, explore the value of a comprehensive tobacco use assessment, learn to develop effective treatment plans, discuss considerations for medication management and review relapse prevention strategies. Completion of the Essential Skills Training is a pre-requisite for registration of this training.
