				Dear ClearWay MinnesotaSM
Friends and Co-workers,

This week, the Mayo Clinic in
Rochester released major findings from a ClearWay Minnesota-funded research
study. The study found that the incidence of heart attack and sudden cardiac
death in Olmsted County was cut nearly in half after smoke-free ordinances took
effect.

This study is good news and adds to
the overwhelming scientific evidence showing that strong public policies help
reduce the harm of tobacco and exposure to secondhand smoke. We know that
Minnesotans overwhelmingly support smoke-free policies and recognize secondhand
smoke as a serious health risk. The findings from this study reinforce that
there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke and that smoke-free laws
can save lives.
