This study developed and tested the feasibility, acceptability, and potential
effectiveness of an online intervention targeting college student nondaily
smokers. The intervention was 4 weeks long with weekly contacts. Among the 31
participants, all completed the trial and 6 week follow-up. 71% of participants
were satisfied with the program. Increases were seen in the number of people
reporting not smoking in the past 30 days and reducing their smoking over the
course of the trial. Some also reported being quit despite recent smoking. The
authors call for additional research to understand how nondaily smokers define
cessation, improve measures for cessation, and examine theoretical constructs
related to smoking among this population.
