CDC released estimates of current adult smoking among U.S. adults aged 18 and over from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). In 2017, 13.9 percent of U.S. adults were cigarette smokers, which is the lowest level recorded by the NHIS. Note, the NHIS does not ask about use of e-cigarettes or address their impact on smoking.
