Question Does providing a lung cancer screening decision aid through tobacco quitlines improve informed decision-making about lung cancer screening among persons who smoke?
Findings In this randomized clinical trial of 516 smokers, use of a patient decision aid compared with standard educational information led to better preparedness to decide about screening, higher reports of feeling informed and clear about screening choices, and greater knowledge of screening benefits and harms.
Meaning The findings suggest that decision aids about lung cancer screening can reach large numbers of smokers who are eligible for screening through tobacco quitlines, can inform them about lung cancer screening, and can promote high-quality screening decisions.
