During 2009/2010, NAQC compiled materials that state quitlines had developed to describe the importance of their work to the media, policy makers and the public. Staff selected innovative examples to share with the quitline community.

What is a Quitline?

Name of the Document Description
"California Smokers' Helpline: 1-800-NO-BUTTS" A two-page Q&A document that provides general information as well as types of services provided at the California Smokers’ Helpline.
"What is the Colorado Quitline?" A two-page document that describes quitline operations and explains the benefits of the quitline services.
"An Easy and Effective Way To Help Your Patients With Tobacco Use Cessation: Quitline Iowa" A colorful twelve-page brochure for health care providers (HCP) that describes the services that are available via the Iowa Quitline and addresses topics of Medicaid and Fax referral program.
"When you're ready to quit smoking, we're here" A tri-fold brochure that describes the Iowa Quitline services and encourages consumers to participate in the program.
"Healthcare Providers Guide to the Indiana Tobacco Quitline" A one-page fact sheet is a straightforward presentation for Indiana HCP that briefly describes the quitline and how to refer patients to the Indiana Tobacco Quitline. 
"Real People Are Doing It Everyday. Join Us Today"
A tri-fold consumer brochure that describes the harm of tobacco use, lists services provided at the Maryland Quitline and provides relatable quitter stories.
"Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline"
A one-page fact sheet about the Oklahoma Tobacco Quitline describing the offered services as well as the way helpline effectiveness is evaluated.
"Quitline Iowa" A straightforward one-page fact sheet about types of medications available and support of Medicaid cessation benefit at Quitline Iowa.
"Yes! I'm Ready to Quit"
A tri-fold patient brochure describing the difficulties dealing with tobacco addictions and providing a sample Quit Plan as well as tools to aid in making a successful quitting attempt (Texas Quitline). 
"Quitline Fact Sheet" A one-page fact sheet that describes services offered at Wisconsin Quitline and walks the consumer through what he/she might expect when calling the quitline.
"Your Reason for Quitting" A 4-page brochure that describes the types of services and medications offered at the Ohio quitline and reasons for quitting tobacco use.

ROI/Cost Effectiveness of Quitlines

Name of the Document Description
"What Tobacco Costs Your Company" A one-page fact sheet that provides an example of how much money a business could save by helping their employees quit using tobacco products.
"Case Study: Economic Impact of the American Cancer Society Quitline" A 2-page case study that shows a 71% rate of return, in one year, for an employer whose employees started using the quitline services.
"The Value of the NC Tobacco Use Quitline" A two-page narrative of budget/program justification for the North Carolina Quitline, including background information and reasons for investing in the quitline services.

"California Department of Public Health Celebrates 15th Anniversary of the California Smokers' Helpline" A two-page press release including success stories issued by the State of California program in celebration of 15 years of helpline services.
"Eternal" A 30-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) used by Iowa to promote its quitline.
"A Voice" A 30-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) used by Wisconsin to promote its quitline.

"Why Do You Want To Quit Smoking" A two-page consumer brochure from Massachusetts Department of Public Health aimed at multiple audiences/populations on reasons to quit and how the quitline can help.
"Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline: African American Quit Facts" A two-page, multiple audience fact sheet on African-Americans and tobacco use and how Oklahoma quitline can help.
"Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline: American Indian Quit Facts" A two-page, multiple audience fact sheet on American Indians and tobacco use and how Oklahoma quitline can help.
"Secondhand Smoke Brochure" A two-page, Spanish language, consumer brochure from Maryland Department of Health on harms of secondhand smoke and the importance of quitting and how to call the quitline.
"LGBTQ-NS" A four-page document on Counseling Guidelines for the LGBT community from National Jewish Health. A poster and a bus wrap for LGBT community provided by DC Tobacco Free Families program.
"Deja Las Escusas Brochure" A two-page, Spanish language, consumer brochure from DC Tobacco Free Families program on harms of tobacco use.
"Deja Las Escusas Diorama"
A consumer poster, Spanish language, from DC Tobacco Free Families program urging smokers to quit and call the quitline.
"Pathways to Freedom: Winning the Fight Against Tobacco" A 44-page guide that addresses tobacco issues specific to African Americans.

Advocacy/ Legislative Documents

Name of the Document Description
"Thank Elected Officials" On-line function on the DCTFF website allows consumers to send "Thank you” notes directly to elected officials after they've been helped by the quitline. A one-page document lists the elected officials and links to their contact information.
"Community Fact Sheet" A two-page example of how Massachusetts Department of Health provides community-specific information on how tobacco effects that community and how the quitline has served that community.
"The First 10 Years" A detailed, seventeen-page report on the first 10 years of the ClearWay Minnesota program. The report highlights important milestones and dates and lists some of the main accomplishments of the program.
"Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline: Services Provided FY 2008" A two-page document on Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline program describing populations served and overall program results.
"WI Statewide Tobacco Dependence Treatment Programs" A one-page example of how WI provides district level information (for state delegates and senators) about tobacco effects on the community and how the quitline has served that community.
"New York State Smokers' Quitline: 2008 Report" A brief nine-page report on progress/impact of NY quitline for multiple audiences. The report describes populations served, quitline background information, types of services and medications available and more.
"Legislator Education" Four-page fact sheet for legislators that makes the case about the importance of funding for tobacco control programs including quitlines.
