On March 31st, Legacy
will host the first in a series of thought leader panel discussions that
delve deeper into one of the key findings from the 2014 Surgeon General's Report on
Smoking and Health. The report calls for the rapid
elimination of combusted tobacco products as a way to decrease the burden
of tobacco-related death and disease in the United States.
Electronic or
e-cigarettes represent an evolving frontier -- one that is filled with
promise to reduce the preventable deaths from cigarettes and potential
risk of undermining youth prevention, smoking cessation and indoor air
restrictions -- posing challenges for tobacco control practitioners,
policy makers and regulators.
A possible "end
game" objective, this Kenneth E. Warner Lecture Series will discuss the
issues surrounding the elimination of combustible cigarettes (and
possibly all combustible tobacco products) and the evolution of
e-cigarettes and alternative products that could play a role in ending
the tobacco epidemic once and for all.
