The University of Chicago, Department of Psychiatry seeks applications for a part-time (20 hours/week), benefits-eligible licensed clinical social worker to act as Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TST). The TST will be integrated into the University of Chicago Cancer Center’s outpatient and inpatient clinics and will provide comprehensive support for center-wide tobacco cessation programming. Responsibilities include conducting clinical assessments, providing individual and/or group psychotherapy using evidence-based practices (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing), interfacing with a web-based application to coordinate all aspects of smoking cessation program delivery, and documentation in the medical record. The TST will be embedded in the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center clinics, and will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary care team that includes oncologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a medical center, substance abuse treatment setting, or tobacco treatment program. Additionally, experience working with high-risk, low-income medical populations and/or substance abusers is preferred.
The tobacco cessation initiative to be implemented at the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center is the first of its kind in the Chicago area. This position will be funded by a National Cancer Institute (NCI) grant that coordinated by Drs. Andrea King and Yasmin Asvat. Drs. King and Asvat will be directing and supervising the TST in all tobacco cessation program-related activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree or higher in Social Work from an accredited institution required.
- Minimum of one year of related experience required.
- Licensed in the State of Illinois, LCSW required.
