Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is a state agency that, "Helps People Live Better Lives" every day through our five different divisions; Public Health is one of those divisions which is responsible for preventative and community health programs and services. The Public Health division is searching for a Tobacco Cessation Educator within our Health Promotion team.

Qualifications / Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent coursework/training in community health education, biological science, adult/continuing education or related field AND experience in public/community health education activities with responsibility for developing, evaluating, and leading health education program activities; assessing health needs; writing and designing educational and informational material, training aids, and presentations; preparing grant proposals; or planning and leading group sessions. Related experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree in public or community health or related field. Minimum of three years of experience working in public or community health. Experience with tobacco prevention and control and tobacco cessation.

OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Frequent day travel and occasional overnight travel required.

Job duties

Provide technical assistance to local communities and sub grantees on tobacco prevention and control best practices. Plan, direct, and oversee tobacco initiatives and programs related to increasing tobacco cessation in Nebraska including but not limited to the oversight of the Nebraska Tobacco Quitline, increasing referrals, dissemination of call data, development of materials and completion of associated reports. Plan, direct, and oversee tobacco initiatives and programs related to reducing tobacco related health disparities, including oversight of contracts, grant proposals and reports, and providing technical assistance. Develop and maintain effective relationships/partnerships with internal and external partners and works in collaboration with these partners and others toward the achievement of the grant goals and strategies. Responsible for representing the Nebraska tobacco program among national and state partners and providing responses to requests from these organizations as needed. Assist in preparing grant applications, budgets, and progress reports. Develop contracts and sub-grants, and monitor such sub-recipients to ensure they are following federal and agency guidelines, and ensure work is completed according to the scope of work. Plan, organize, prepare, and distribute information, educational materials, and training sessions on best practices in tobacco control and prevention.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of program planning, implementation and evaluation including the assessment of goals and measurement of programmatic achievement. Skill in teaching, guiding and working with others.

Pay rate is 24.481 per hour: Location is Lincoln, Nebraska. Schedule is M-F 8:00am to 5:00pm
