CDC Health Equity Fellowship, Office on Smoking and Health.

A research opportunity is currently available with the Office of Smoking and Health (OSH), within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

The selected participant will be assigned to collaborate with the Associate Director for Health Equity within the Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) and will receive mentoring from OSH senior staff. The participant will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from multidisciplinary teams and be involved with the senior staff team in planning, implementation and evaluation of science-based strategies and interventions to address tobacco-related health equity and reduce health disparities. Under the guidance of the Associate Director for Health Equity, the participant will have the opportunity to learn about the following activities:

  • Conducting systematic literature reviews, environmental scans, assessments pertaining to tobacco related health equity approaches, interventions, policies and practices
  • Scientific writing and publication
  • Scientific approaches to examining health equity, including how to conduct quantitative and qualitative data analyses
  • Building internal organizational and external partner capacity to address health equity
  • Communication strategies about tobacco-related health equity and health disparities
  • Social determinants of health, health equity and health disparity in regards to the prevention of commercial tobacco/electronic nicotine devise (e-cigarette) use
