Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention Section : Job Posting for a Manager
III Position (Posting # 485936).
Under the leadership of the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention
(HPCDP) Section Director, position performs complex managerial work overseeing
daily operations and activities of the Chronic Disease Branch, including but
not limited to Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, Alzheimer's Program, Texas
Healthy Communities Program, Heart Disease and Stroke Program, and Asthma
Program. Ensures that goals and objectives are consistent with those of DSHS
executive and section management, Texas State Legislature, and federal grants,
and oversees strategic planning for branch programs. Coordinates joint projects
with Diabetes and Heart Disease programs. Oversees and implements policy,
legislation, budget, other administration functions, and decision-making for
the branch. Work involves supervising professional staff members and ensuring
collaboration, coordination, and integration of branch activities with other
programs in the section. Oversees the preparation of grant applications and
budgets; monitors budgets and expenditures. Participates in the legislative
process. Provides direction and guidance in support of the Governor-appointed
Texas Council on Cardiovascular Disease & Stroke, and Alzheimer's. Consults
with the Chronic Disease Epidemiology on surveillance, research, and evaluation
projects. Works with considerable latitude for use of initiative and independent
judgment.
