NAQC joins the global appeal to protect the right to health. NAQC is proud to join ASH: Action on Smoking & Health and 206 other organizations in calling on the UN Committee on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) to maintain and strengthen its mention of the harms of tobacco in the Draft General Recommendation n°37 on Racial Discrimination in the enjoyment of the right to health. The joint submission recommends that CERD add language to General Recommendation No. 37 that strengthens the implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, including highlighting the need for widely available, culturally competent cessation support. Signatory organizations include academic institutions, legal centers, and public health advocacy organizations who are united in their agreement that the tobacco epidemic impacts global citizens' enjoyment of their basic human rights, such as their right to health. NAQC stands in solidarity with our partners working to create a future where every individual can thrive free from the harms of tobacco.
