Duties &
Responsibilities
Reporting to the American Lung
Association in Rhode Island Director of Health Promotion and Public Policy, the
Director of the Rhode Island Tobacco Control Network will be responsible for
coordinating all Network advocacy, fundraising, legislative, coalition building,
public relations, and recruitment activities. Additionally, the Director will
manage the RITCN Steering Committee and Policy Committee and also serve as a
liaison to the Rhode Island Department of Health Tobacco Control
Program
Basic
Qualifications
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree
required in government, organizational behavior, public health, social sciences,
or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of community
organization/mobilization experience. Strong advocacy, legislative, management,
networking, and strategic planning skills. The Director should possess knowledge
of Rhode Island communities, governmental agencies, and non-profit
organizations. Ability to work independently in complex projects and
collaboratively on a team is essential. Must be independent thinker and able to
multitask.

Qualifications
- Competent fundraiser and grant writer. (Will need to raise 20%
of funding for fiscal year)
- Strong
verbal and written communication skills and has the ability to be persuasive.
- Ability to plan and coordinate meetings between decision makers
to discuss policy issues. Has skills and abilities to effect change through
those interactions.
- Familiarity with the local policy landscape. Attends community
gatherings. Can rally participation in RITCN advocacy and outreach events.
- Has
network of community contacts across region that can be brought together to
advocate on policy issues. Has ability to cultivate statewide Advocacy Captains
and nurture grassroots teams for advocacy at the local and state level.
- Can communicate the goals
of the Network, create avenues for taking action, and elevate the grassroots
conversation through co-designing and implementing strategic advocacy campaigns.
- Has skill and abilities to:
recruit new members and nurture existing member relationships; represent RITCN
in coalition and partner meetings; maintain contact lists and relationship
databases; develop campaign materials, including email, web and social media
content.
- Must
have valid driver’s license and car as position requires statewide
travel.

Schedule
Monday –
Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Evening work
expected during the Rhode Island General Assembly legislative season and
community/fundraising events.

$60,000 –
$63,000
