Celebrating the Great American Smokeout 2012!
Greetings!
NAQC would like to wish all of you a Great American Smokeout (GASO) 2012! Below
are a number of special reports and activities that have been released today in
recognition of GASO:
- Dr. Howard Koh, Assistant
Secretary for Health at U.S. DHHS, announced that in commemoration of the
American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout, HHS is launching http://www.BeTobaccoFree.gov – a
comprehensive website that coordinates access to the best and most
up-to-date tobacco-related information from across HHS into a single
online location.BeTobaccoFree.gov was built using responsive design,
which makes information accessible anywhere, anytime on any platform, from
smart phone to tablet to desktop.
- The Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention released a new MMWR report today called "Comprehensive
Smoke-Free Laws - 50 Largest U.S. Cities, 2000 and 2012”. The report notes
that "Significant
progress has been achieved since 2000 in expanding comprehensive
smoke-free policy coverage in the 50 largest U.S. cities, but 20 cities
remain without full protection from secondhand smoke in private
workplaces, restaurants and bars.” Analysis shows that 30 of
America’s 50 largest cities are now covered by laws that prohibit smoking
in all indoor areas of private workplaces, restaurants, and bars. Learn more.
- The American Lung Association
will release its fifth annual Helping
Smokers Quit: Tobacco Cessation Coverage report on Monday, December 3. A
webinar to discuss the highlights, trends and hot topics described in the
report is scheduled for Monday, December 3 at 2 pm EST. You can register here.
