CDC has invited public comment on three important topics below.

CDC’s National Quitline Data Warehouse Information Collection
CDC is proposing to continue collecting information from the 50 states, D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Asian Smoker’s Quitline regarding what quitline services are offered and the number and type of tobacco users who receive quitline services. This information is used to tailor quitline services to the needs of callers; for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of state quitlines, including the effectiveness of the Tips® campaign; and for continued reporting through CDC’s State Tobacco Activities Tracking and Evaluation (STATE) System website.
Comments may be submitted until January 7 at https://www.regulations.gov  or via US Mail.

Healthy People 2030
CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) is the lead federal agency responsible for the development and maintenance of tobacco use objectives for Healthy People, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s (HHS) longstanding initiative to monitor progress related to key public health areas. In May 2018, HHS’ Office  of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) issued guidance and recommendations for topic area objective selection for the upcoming decade – Healthy People 2030 – and requested that each topic area provide a more focused set of actionable national priorities to guide the nation in its efforts to improve health.
In response to this guidance, OSH consulted with internal and external subject matter experts, including through an expert panel of key tobacco control stakeholders convened in 2018. Following review of the information received during that process, OSH proposed a set of objectives to HHS, which in turn decided upon 20 total tobacco use objectives for 2030 – more than any other topic area.
As a part of the final stages of the Healthy People 2030 development process, HHS is soliciting comments on the proposed objectives. The public comment period will be open from December 3rd through January 17th. HHS welcomes your review and comment on the proposed objectives, including any recommendations for additional objectives or setting targets for each objective. Learn more here

CDC’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program
CDC’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program published a Federal Register Notice on November 20. They are extending the comment period by 30 days, allowing the public more time to comment on its proposal to assess strategies to improve the public health needs of cancer survivors. The Program hopes to learn more about how grantees have learned of cancer survivor needs; use of surveillance data among grantees, providers, and coalition members; challenges encountered; and lessons learned.
