NCI published a GIS story detailing the impact of tobacco use on lung cancer through maps and data. About one-third of cancer deaths in this country can be attributed to cigarette smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke. Approximately 7,330 lung cancer deaths occur each year among adult nonsmokers in the United States as a result of exposure to secondhand smoke.
