Dear Colleagues,

How does your state rank in reducing tobacco use?

State of Tobacco Control 2020

The American Lung Association’s “State of Tobacco Control” 2020 shows the progress and failures of the states and the federal government to prevent and reduce tobacco use. The report grades states and the federal government based on whether state and federal laws protect Americans from the enormous toll tobacco use takes on lives and theeconomy.

Key Findings in2019

2020 needs to be the year that federal,
state and local lawmakers prioritize public
health over the tobaccoindustry.

27.5% increase

The youth vaping epidemic showed no signs of ending in 2019, continuing its alarming rise to 27.5 percent or more than one in four high school students using e-cigarettes. This means more than three million more kids started using e‑cigarettes over the past twoyears.

Grade F

By passing a law in December 2019 to increase the tobacco sales age to 21 nationwide, the federal government received an “A” grade in the report’s new Federal Minimum Age category this year. However, the federal government earned an “F” for federal regulation of tobacco products for its failure to protect the public from all tobacco products, includinge‑cigarettes.

We Need YourVoice

What is a major reason kids are attracted to e‑cigarettes? The flavors. That's why the FDA must act to eliminate flavors in all tobacco products. Please ask your members of Congress to cosponsor bills in the House and Senate to protect ourkids.
