is pleased to share the CDC announcement on a new director for OSH. We welcome
Dr. Kittner and thank Dr. Presley-Cantrell for her many contributions!
Dr. Kittner brings to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National
Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), and OSH
more than 20 years of experience in public health and healthcare, with leadership
roles in both the public and the private sectors. Her major research interests
and leadership focuses are ideal for the Director of OSH: global tobacco
prevention and control, tobacco and health behavior surveillance, health policy
for preventing and controlling lifestyle-related diseases, and tobacco
regulatory science.
Dr. Kittner is currently Deputy Director of FDA's Office of Science, Center for
Tobacco Products. In this position, Dr. Kittner serves as a principal advisor
to the Director, making tobacco-related science recommendations that impact
policy, direction, and long-range goals, while supervising division directors
and branch chiefs within the Office. She also serves as a senior advisor to the
Center for Tobacco Product's health equity workgroup, where she helps identify
ways to assess the potential impact of regulatory policies on vulnerable
groups. Prior to joining FDA, Dr. Kittner directed the Campaign for
Tobacco-Free Kids' International Research unit, which provided evidence-based responses
to requests for tobacco policy and regulatory information from international
organizations, the media, policy-makers, the public, and tobacco control
allies. She has served on numerous domestic and international workgroups and
committees, including those for FDA's Emerging Sciences Council, NIH's Tobacco
Research Network on Disparities, Johns Hopkins University's Global Tobacco
Control Online Course, NCI's Office of International Affairs, and the
U.S.-Japan Cooperative Cancer Research Program.
Dr. Kittner earned a PhD in toxicology from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology and an MPH in quantitative methods from the Harvard School of Public
Health. She received a BS in Biology from Spelman College.
