The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued its first comprehensive
guideline on tobacco cessation
, recommending a range of interventions, such as behavioral support from healthcare providers, digital tools, and pharmacological treatments. The guideline aims to assist over 750 million tobacco users who want to quit, providing relevant recommendations
for adults looking to stop using various tobacco products, including cigarettes, waterpipes, smokeless tobacco, cigars, roll-your-own tobacco, and heated tobacco products (HTPs).
This guideline is designed for healthcare providers in both clinical and community settings, where they may encounter and manage tobacco users. It also offers system-level recommendations and policies aimed at guiding policymakers and health service managers in promoting the adoption and effective implementation of tobacco cessation interventions.
