NAQC is pleased to share that on June 9th, the House Appropriations Committee advanced the FY 2027 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations bill with level funding for CDC’s tobacco prevention and control program. The committee report includes $246.5 million for tobacco prevention and control, maintaining the FY 2026 enacted level, with $46.5 million in direct appropriations and $200 million from the Prevention and Public Health Fund.

This committee action is particularly encouraging because last year’s House appropriations bill did not include funding for CDC’s tobacco prevention and control program; funding was preserved through the Senate bill and final appropriations negotiations. Although the FY 2027 appropriations process is still underway and final funding will depend on action by the full House, Senate, and any eventual negotiations, the House committee action is an important step toward sustaining the national, state, territorial, and community infrastructure needed to reduce commercial tobacco use and support cessation.
